網上報紙、任命終止 - 古德明

問：「郵報分類廣告刊登的某個職位」英文是the position advertised in the Classified Post；但假如說的是網上版分類廣告，是不是應說the position advertised on the Classified Post online？
答：說「網上」，英文一般的確會用介系詞on，例如：（1）How many hits a day do you have on your website on average?（你們的網站，大眾平均每天有多少次觀看？）（2）I found his biography on the Net / net（我在網上找到他的傳記）。
但online（在線的、網上的）是形容詞，不和介系詞連用，所以，介系詞只須配合online修飾的名詞，例如：I read about the Napoleonic Wars in an encyclopedia / in an online encyclopedia（我在百科全書/網上百科全書裏讀到拿破崙戰爭）。同樣道理，in the Classified Post online的in字，不應改用on。
問：Once the post is filled, your acting appointment will cease / will be ceased（這職位一有人擔任，你代理的任命就會終止）這一句，應用will cease還是will be ceased？
答：Cease是「停止」或「終止」，一般用主動語態（active voice），例如：（1）The rain ceased by dawn（黎明前，雨住了）。（2）Hostilities between the two countries ceased（兩國的戰爭停止了）。讀者示下那一句，用will cease就可以，不應用被動語態（passive voice）will be ceased。
